Square-Enix and Disney struck gold when they created KINGDOM HEARTS, an RPG that merged the world of FINAL FANTASY with that of DISNEY. Now, the magic returns with KINGDOM HEARTS II for the PS2. Once again, Sora, Goofy, and Donald must go in search of King Mickey while dealing with the mysterious Organization XIII. The game picks up where KINGDOM HEARTS: Chain of Memories for the GBA left off, although those events are summed up for players who aren’t familiar with the story. Namine puts Sora, Goofy, and Donald to sleep for a year so they can regain their lost memories. Upon awaking, they set out to find the missing King Mickey and Riku. The first KINGDOM HEARTS had Sora exploring a number of different Disney worlds, and the second game expands these locations by including several new worlds, including levels based on MULAN, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, THE LION KING, and the sci-fi adventure TRON. Likewise, a number of FINAL FANTASY characters appear, and returning characters like Cloud, Squall, Yuffie, and Aerith are joined by Yuna, Rikku, Paine, and Tifa, among others. Gameplay is very similar to the first KINGDOM HEARTS, with some new summons and abilities. Sora can now merge with one of his allies in Drive Mode, which increases his powers and allows him to dual wield Keyblades. All of the action and adventure are back, and the storyline of KINGDOM HEARTS II will shock gamers with its twists and turns. | |
